I am certainly not the intended audience for this book. Allison Carmen says that, for the most part, the workplace was created by men for men. So her book, rightly, is a book by a woman written for women. I've met Ms. Carmen socially, so I wanted to read her story and see what advice she has to offer. Frankly, it's a stunning tale of a woman trying to make sense of unexpected upheaval and disappointment in her life. She asks important questions about a woman's role in the world and in business. What does success look like? Is it different for women than for men? Should it be? Are women happier working without men around? How important is it to have a relationship with a man? What is keeping you from success and happiness? In addition to asking good questions, she gives sound advice for finding your answers. She explains the important difference between reacting and responding. She offers a new definition of what beauty is. She says that it's important to remember that everyone suffers and to avoid comparing yourself to others (especially on social media). If I, as a man, found this book entertaining and enlightening, I expect most women will truly be inspired by its messages about life and love and business and family. Allison Carmen and her collection of works are oars that help’s steer life’s ship. Her wonderful perspective towards embracing the unknown is honest and captivating.
